Performance of a finite mixture model in CPUE standardization for a longline fishery with target change

Abstract Standardized catch per unit effort (CPUE) is frequently used to represent annual fish-stock abundance trends. In multispecies fisheries, the catchability coefficient differs depending on target strategy. Consideration of strategy in CPUE standardization therefore crucial improving accuracy and precision estimates. This study focuses potential a finite mixture model (FMM), where species their trends are estimated simultaneously single model. The eight candidates methods—including FMM—were evaluate methodological performance as whether they could identify A numerical simulation was undertaken using simplified data that mimic Japanese longline fishery considering change over years, area effect, Our indicated FMM outperformed other methods various scenarios, it concluded an effective robust methodology for clarifying modeling standardization.
